Help H. S. Students Achieve Their Dreams Of Becoming Artists!
My students need basic art supplies such as paper, pencils, charcoal and markers, to start the year and complete their art portfolios for application to art colleges and universities.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Help young people reach their potential as artists!
With realization of one's own potential and self-confidence in one's ability, one can build a better world - Dalai Lama
I teach some of the finest young artists in the Philadelphia area!
Our school is a Title I (high poverty) school. We have a thriving art major program in which students who wish to pursue different avenues of the visual arts may explore their talent and abilities. My students are excited about learning and often go on to study visual arts in college and pursue visual art careers. Despite having many economic challenges, they strive to pursue their talent and dreams.
My Project
The materials provided will help my students develop their portfolio. The reason the majority of the resources requested are paper, is because during the last school year I was diagnosed with a brain tumor. During my absence for treatment, much of my paper supply was given away to other classes and left my program with very little for the coming year.
I would like to replace the materials I had and would like to start the new year off well, since last year was very difficult for both me and my students. The other drawing materials requested are materials I would like to replace that were used during that time also.
The projects created with the materials will cover a broad range of topics including portraiture, figure drawing, design, illustration, and surrealism. My classes are often run like workshops in which higher level students may work on an advanced placement portfolio and be granted college credit for their portfolios.
These materials are so important because many of our students come from challenging economic situations and do not have the means to acquire art supplies.
I have taught at my school for twelve years and stayed that long because I believe in urban education and developing the talent, creativity, and potential of urban youth. Please help them explore their talents and reach their potential! Thank you for taking the time to read about and support our program!
