My Students

Nearly 80% of our public school's population receives free or reduced price lunch, but 100% of our students are excited about learning.

Our high-poverty school is a community of hard-working students, involved family members, and dedicated teachers.

My 5th-grade students come to school eager to learn. For many, it is a home away from home where they can feel safe, be excited about their learning, and be part of a classroom community.

Within our classroom, we have a range of learners with a variety of needs. They are very social, and they love learning, collaborating, and laughing with their peers.

My Project

We are requesting books, books, books! Our titles include Dork Diaries Collection, Holes, Story Thieves, Mistakes That Worked: 40 Familiar Inventions and How They Came to Be and many more. My students selected these books hoping to add them to our classroom library. As a teacher, I am trying to build and foster a love for reading in my class that will last a lifetime. Getting books that are at my students' reading levels and are high interest is key to making this happen.

With these books, students will have the ability to choose from a variety of titles that meet their interests, as well as their reading levels.

Students are thrilled about the thought of having new and exciting books to read throughout the year. They have spent time looking for and requesting books they would like to read during their independent reading time. With your help, I can make this happen.
