I teach a 2nd grade class at PS 11 in Manhattan, which is located in the heart of Chelsea. Our classroom has one teacher (me) and thirty two large and in charge second graders.
The kids are fabulous.
Their little minds are like huge sponges that absorb quickly what is around them. Placing an iPad with 2 or 3 kids sitting in a small group has the capacity for great things. I've seen them get to work quickly learning all they can on a topic. I've seen them challenge each other to an online math game not even realizing that they were doing schoolwork. I've also seen them sit together and read a narrative book that I don't have in my classroom library. An iPad Really does open the walls of a classroom to endless possibilities.
My Project
iPads will help broaden my classroom walls. The kids will use them to become independent learners by researching what interests them.It provides them with the tools to imagine and create digital projects that reflect their learning. Computers in the classroom will enlarge my classroom library from hundreds of titles to thousands of titles. Computers in my classroom will allow us to digitally communicate with each other at home and in the classroom. Computers in the classroom will allow me the opportunity to create differentiated activities that the kids can practice to help meet their individual learning style and level. I can go on and on and on.
