Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I have the amazing opportunity to teach 11 amazing students in grades TK-1st who have mild/moderate needs. Many of them have social emotional needs. Some of these social needs are learning to express their feelings and emotions appropriately, resolving conflicts without physical contract or self-harm, and making positive self affirmations.

Creating a Calming Corner in our classroom is beneficial to my student because it will give them access to a safe space where they can go and learn to become more aware their emotions, and practice how to better regulate themselves.

My goal is to create a calming corner where my student can feel safe, warm and cozy. I would to love to be able to provide my student with a large bean bag chair to put in our corner where student can sit when they need a break. While in the bean bag the student will have access to visual posters with breathing exercises, different emotions where they can identify which emotions they are feeling, fidget toys, and sensory toys to help them feel calm. Creating a calm corner with these tools will benefit my students overall well being by having access to a place where they can go and learn the necessary skills they need in order to be able to self-regulate.
