Help me give my students access to the consumable component of their reading intervention curriculum. These portfolios and notebooks will help students attain the phonetical awareness and conventional grammar knowledge necessary to transform into high-level readers.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
Dyslexia is neurodevelopmental condition that impacts 1 in 5 students in some way. The language-based learning disability makes learning to read, spell and write difficult. The most severe cases affect roughly 5% of learners. The popularity of whole language literacy has impacted generations of learners, but the most recent generation of students has been greatly impacted due to the removal of blended phonetical instruction.
Students have been taught to memorize words instead of learning the skill of decoding.
This presents challenges as students grow and encounter unfamiliar words as they continue in school and the real world. Students with dyslexia are the greatest affected. Wilson Reading System is a specific reading intervention geared toward older students and adults categorized as struggling readers. New research also shows WRS successful in English Language Learners.
This project will gift my students the ability to move through the WRS steps during intervention instruction. The overall goal is to not only intensely teach my students to read, but will also allow them the gift of learning how to read for both knowledge and pleasure.
