My Project
Hello everyone,
Over the years I have realized that my students get almost zero opportunities to explore, create, and engage in an artistic way.
When they talk about home life, most of it is with screens, and when they talk about school, a lot of it is filled with frustration and disappointment due to academic struggles.
I have students that cannot recite the alphabet in order, cannot pronounce or even spell their name, and struggle to count their fingers. However, when they do arts and crafts, I see them create beautiful projects.
I see them experience success and achievement, and see smiles and pride for their work instead of the tuning out and acting out that I see when it comes to academic work.
I have selected some items that I have seen be successful in the past, along with a scent warmer for my classroom (I have no ventilation and can't open up the door or window for long periods of time due to the noise). I have found that students like coming into a room that smells good- it helps increase motivation and makes them feel cared for.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I just want to help students feel better about themselves with arts and crafts and give them a chance to achieve and complete a project they feel good about, which I think they rarely, if ever, get to do.
