My Students
Art allows us to explore humanity near and far, old and new. At our school, our goals include creating opportunities for our students to do just that! Art is one of the most powerful tools we use to reach our students. As the art teacher, I have the privilege of working with every single one of them!
My students come from many ethnic, linguistic, and social backgrounds.
Nearly 60% of my students come from low-income households. For the majority of the students, English is their second language. The arts are critical for ALL students to show what they know, think, and feel and to develop the necessary 21st-century skills required to be successful in this rapidly changing and interconnected world.
My Project
As we move into our 4th month of the school year 100% remote with no end in sight, I am working on fulfilling their art supply wish lists for home use . We have 400 students, many heavily impacted by Covid-19 and the resulting shut downs. Being creative is critical for young students to express themselves and process the big feelings resulting from this extended remote learning. I want them have access to as many of the requested supplies I provide at school as possible but the costs add up when providing them for each individual students. The biggest request is for paint. Paint is very challenging for families to manage at home. These paint sticks give a similar experience for students to explore painting but are safe for even the youngest artist to use and clean up independently without the huge mess or need for water and brushes.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
