Help Furnish My Classroom Care Closet With Water and Snacks!

Help me give my students nourishing treats and drinking water! I want to fill my classroom Care Closet with things they need and love like purified water, microwaveable Mac and Cheese, Hot Pockets, Takis, and other treats.

My Project

High school students have to work hard to make the grade. Brain work requires energy and proper hydration, and it’s hard to do your best if your stomach is growling or your throat’s dry. Also, sometimes the promise of a bag of Takis or Fruit Snacks can give a kid the motivation to participate with gusto.

It makes me smile to think about how hard some of my scholars will compete in classroom games or debates for some Pringles or Rice Krispies Treats.

They’re young adults, but they’re still kids, and while it’s a challenge to get them excited about grammar, I can always get them excited about food treats.

Another thing to keep in mind is that, for various reasons, sometimes kids come to school hungry. If they missed breakfast and it’s a long while before lunch, I want to be able to help. Providing water and/or the occasional treat in the classroom is just one of the ways we teachers have of building relationships with our students while letting them know we care.

So I’m asking for help in furnishing my classroom “Care Closet” with things my students will appreciate. Of course, I’ll be adding other items (Band-Aids, hygiene products, lip balm, tissues, etc.), but the water and snacks, in bulk, are the big-ticket basics I need to get my Care Closet going. So thank you, in advance, for whatever help you can give.
