In my Title 1 Kindergarten classroom, I work with my students to establish a positive learning community in which we all support and learn from one another, as a family. The environment of the classroom is essential to our learning community and offers many opportunities for collaboration and creativity.
Kindergartners are like sponges.
They are creative, each differently. They love to be hugged and they love to celebrate big accomplishments. Many of the students I teach are being raised in single parent homes and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These are statistics that typically keep children with these difficulties from reaching their fully potential. It is my passion as their teacher to help them see this potential and reach beyond their goals we set together while they are with me. While their home lives may not always be what I desire for them, I can do everything in my power to make the atmosphere in my classroom all they need to flourish.
With an arsenal of literature, technology, and art supplies, I am ready to inspire my students in a creative and positive way. I will be the change they want to see.
My Project
I have many new titles selected to peek interest and engage my new readers in learning. However, I have also chosen some "classics" I enjoyed as a child. I can't wait to read the Mrs Nelson series and others and share our connections. My students will read these books everyday for at least 30 minutes.
I am a new teacher.
I graduated in December 2017 and began my first teaching position as an EIP support teacher. Next year, I will have my own Kindergarten classroom. I could not be more excited!!
The requested books will help take my teaching to the next level and spark an interest in literacy with my new readers. This project will change my students' lives they will have connections to the text and the lessons I prepare with them as well as the discussions we have as a class family about the books. #bethechange
