This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are a diverse group of children who are inquisitive, passionate about learning, and motivated to succeed. They come to school every day excited about learning. They are also very proud of their accomplishments.
I teach in one of the most diverse neighborhoods in San Diego.
One hundred percent of my students receive free breakfast and lunch. Many of my students are English language learners. However, they make great progress every year. Every spring, my school has a heart-warming celebration to honor those children who have become fluent English speakers. Parents decorate the auditorium, students give moving speeches, prominent people of San Diego say some motivating words, and there is never a dry eye in the audience.
My Project
We have a great science program called Mystery Science. It has amazing videos, activities and lessons. However, it does not come with the supplies to do the science experiments. The materials on the list will be enough to supply my fourth graders with hands-on experiences for the whole school year.
We will be learning about human and animal body systems, erosion, weathering, volcanoes, the fossil record, sound energy, electrical energy and motion energy.
They will be building a model of a human hand, learning about eye sight and the nervous system. They will also make a balloon car, a roller racer and a roller coaster. They will be making circuits as well as a paper cup telephone to experiment with how sound travels. Plus much, much more.
