My project needs five different levels of early readers for my first grade classroom library.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Morris's classroom raised $569
This project is fully funded
I teach first grade at a charter school in Northeast D.C. Over 80% of the students at my school are eligible for free or reduced-price lunch.
My classroom lacks books. We have textbooks, yes, but no books to create a classroom library. In order to create a love of reading, I know that I need to create a library in my classroom (the school doesn't have one), so that my kids can pick out books they like and want to read. They also need to be able to set reading goals for themselves.
For elementary school, many books are leveled. This means they are assigned a letter from A to Z which signifies the difficulty of the text. Once I get enough leveled books, I will be able to tell my children what level they are currently reading at, and help them set a goal for where they should finish the year.
I have requested a number of leveled reading sets that are appropriate for first grade readers. You will make it possible for my wonderful students to pick out a book they know they can read and enjoy now, and set goals for what they want to be reading in the future. This is vital to building a love of reading, and the reading skills necessary to get on grade level. Your help will truly transform my classroom and my students' abilities to read!
