Help First Graders Become Readers and Writers

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I remember my teachers telling me to "read your book" or "write a story." The tools that I am asking for will help break down the writing process and provide kids with a few fun journals to write in. The word family activities will help provide a base for reading.

I have a classroom of 24 students.

The majority are English Language Learners who receive free or reduced lunch. They come from homes where both parents work and the kids become latch key kids or spend a lot of time with babysitters. My students love learning but do not always have access to materials that encourage them to learn at their full capacity. I have a couple of students who attend speech class and 2 students who attend our learning center for a portion of the day.

My Project

My students are primarily Spanish speaking. Reading and writing are very difficult for them. The journals and word books would give them a fun safe place to practice their writing. The phonics games and word family activities will teach these concepts in a fun way. Not only will the students be engaged, they will be learning at the same time.

If you find this project you would make such a difference in how my little ones learn.

They will actually enjoy reading and writing on a daily basis, instead of dread it. Thank you in advance!!
