Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

We're soon starting our non-fiction unit in the first grade. We've been practicing all year on fiction books and we are eager to learn all about animals, the weather, the earth and life cycles. Help the 24 students of 105 take part in their first experience with nonfiction books. If we capture their attention for nonfiction early we can expect them to continue their interest as they grow older. The books will go into the classroom library and the students will have a choice of 6-8 each week that they practice reading daily for 25 minutes. I am so excited about this upcoming unit because at their age- 6 years old- everything, from a picture of lightning striking, to learning about the life cycle of a bird is completely fascinating for them and they love to share their newfound knowledge with everyone. Help us grow our love for reading by providing these great nonfiction books. Thanks!
