I have the unique privilege to serve a student population that is similar to the United Nations. Our students make up a total of seven languages spoken, with multiple nations represented.
We are a mere five minute drive from the Jewish Vocational Services Center who places, houses, and educates refugees from all over the world.
Our school is a culmination of born and raised Kansas City kiddos, and kids who arrived off a plane from another country just days, sometimes hours before the school start time.
They are diligent in their studies, resilient in their nature, and extraordinarily kind.
My Project
These specific headphones will allow each child in my class to have a pair of listening devices that will help in a variety of ways! These headphones would give them the privacy they desire when testing, the ability to hear stories read aloud while other class stations are going on, and it would give them chances to enhance their listening skills.
Over 85% of my class speaks a different language at home.
Hearing the English language in a variety of ways is critical to their language development. When they have the ability to hear the English language again and again, that ability to recognize phonemic patterns and practices will stick! These high quality headphones would also prevent breaking because they detach at both ends and would allow students to spend more time on task rather than adjusting their headphones.
Of course not everything can be done online! We need a box of paper to help with our printable needs.
