Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have the privilege and honor of teaching nine wonderful and energetic special-needs preschoolers. Their varying exceptionalities include cerebral palsy, autism spectrum disorders, and developmentally disabilities.
My students love learning new concepts but because of sensory processing problems, they are easily distracted from completing learning tasks.
They learn with their whole bodies and love to taste, touch, explore, spin, and glide. I provide a rich and stimulating environment filled with tactile toys to help children increase their fine motor skills, visual perception, concentration, and focus. Tactile stimulation toys allow children seeking sensory input to get a sense of exuberance as they feel different textures and explore the world around them. I believe that learning should be fun and engaging. My students shriek with glee when they hold a squishy ball or touch kinetic sand as it flows freely through their hands.
Sensory play allows my students to help self-regulate their bodies when they are upset or in distress. My students are amazing and always find creative ways to continue to explore the world around them despite having physical limitations
My Project
Sensory play allows children with Autism to relieve stress and anxiety. Tactile toys will keep students occupied and not focus on outside environmental stimuli such as lights and sounds. It will give them a sense of control over their environment. The donated items will give students a sense of normalcy as they have difficulty exploring the world around them.
The inflatable Pea Pod will help my students on the autism spectrum disorder apply deep, even pressure to many sensitive areas of their body.
This will have a positive impact on students' fine motor skills and visual focus. The velvety surface is made with comfortable flocked vinyl and provides a gentle squeeze to gently rock side-to-side for a cocooning-calm and gentle squeeze. With the Flex-Space Balance Ball Seat, constant movement is required to stay seated on the ball. And that movement, however slight, helps them focus. Fidget to Focus tactile toys will allow my students to achieve enormous success!
