This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My classroom is full of active five year old students who are excited to be at school. They are beginning their first school and classroom experience when they walk through my door.
My class consists of students who are Vietnamese, African-American, Hispanic, and Caucasian.
Many of the students are English Language Learners. The majority of our school's students are from a low socioeconomic neighborhood, and they have been limited in their exposure to many things. I am thrilled to be their kindergarten teacher and am able to provide them many opportunities they haven't yet been afforded.
My Project
Many of my students come to school each day depending on the provided breakfast and lunch. If their transportation is running late then the chances of them missing breakfast is very high. I would love to stock up on some Pop Tarts and crackers just for this reason. I want each student, whether they are students in my class or not, to have a full belly to start their day off right.
Watching your five year old friends enjoy their snack while you just sit there, is not an option in my classroom.
I would like to be able to continue providing snacks for those that are unable to bring them. I never want anyone to feel left out, to feel different, or to go hungry.
