This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students live in the Bronx. I serve a diverse group of students from kindergarten through fifth grade. Many are English language learners and come from low-income families. They are so excited to have a visual arts class where they can express themselves. I will be visiting classrooms in a blended capacity and a large percentage may be working remotely this upcoming school year. I see several classes on a remote only basis as well as those in the building
My art class is a safe haven where students can feel free to take creative risks and express their emotions.
Students in my school typically don't have access to art supplies at home. They are bright, creative, and eager young scholars. They would all really benefit from your support with materials and mediums which they don't get to use except in our art classroom.
My Project
This is yet another unprecedented year in our elementary visual arts classroom. We need your help in keeping the classroom neat and socially distanced.
When students come to art, it is usually a communal space but due to COVID regulations there is less sharing happening.
Desks are being used for art and they are in individual rows. Instead of being able to use a long table cover as I had in the past- we need individual reusable placemats.
I have requested a class set of messy mats, a ream of 12 x 18 watercolor paper and a package of lamination pouches.
Our stock of 12 x 18 watercolor paper is nearly depleted and we LOVE painting and doing enriching activities. Lamination pouches will be used to save signage for art shows to be reused and also to create texture rubbing plates for our youngest artists.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
