My Students

GPA is a PreK-6th grade public elementary school in Indianapolis. We are a tuition free, public school; allowing students throughout Indy the ability to come through our doors. We also teach students through dual language, setting the stage for them to be bilingual and bi-literate throughout their lifetime.

My school is located in an urban area of Indianapolis and is over 70% free and reduced lunch.

Our students come from a wide variety of cultural, socioeconomic, and linguistic backgrounds. The students at our school are smart, curious, and talented.

My Project

Since our school opened on August 1, 2016, GPA has believed in providing outdoor learning opportunities for our students. As part of a larger grant project, the students at GPA have raised hens from eggs and have kept them healthy in our outdoor farm area. This has allowed our students to experience the life-cycle first hand as well as learn the farm-to-table food process. Students have enjoyed eating the eggs the hens have provided as well as donating cartons of eggs to our school's food pantry for families in need. In addition, the students have come to know and love these hens are the school "pets" and are excited to interact with them at recess. We lovingly refer to these hens as our "therapy chickens" due to the excitement of the students as they get to care for them during the school year.

Our farm needs your support in order to provide these learning experiences for our students.

Currently, we are running low on chicken supplies. Teachers have been pitching in to pay for chicken supplies so that we can sustain the program and keep our hens healthy. We are asking for donations towards our chicken feed costs so that we can keep this program going for our students.

Please consider making a donation towards our chicken feed costs through this project. In turn, you will be keeping our school-yard farm in operation for the upcoming Spring semester. The chickens and our students thank you.
