Help Expand Our Visual Arts Curriculum with Printmaking!
My students need printmaking supplies including a linoleum class starter kit, foam printing supplies, and collagraph materials to produce meaningful and relevant artworks.
My students are overage middle schoolers that travel across town to an inner-city behavioral program to receive extra support from small class sizes, mentoring, and coaching. Many have difficulties finding positive coping skills and regulating their social-emotional selves in and out of the classroom. Many have diagnosed learning differences in the form of IEPs. My students demographic is 100% African American, and 100% of them receive free breakfast and lunch.
My students come from impoverished communities and many have experienced trauma that has impacted their educational progress.
Our faculty recognizes how ACEs, or Adverse Childhood Experiences, affect student development. As a result, our students need to be treated with extra compassion and care.
My Project
Printmaking, a way to create multiples in art, is a relevant and engaging way for learners to understand more about mass-produced and distributed images within the world around them. I am asking for a class starter kit for my students to create EZ-cut linoleum prints, foam prints, and collagraphs, that will allow students to create images in multiples. I was given a budget of $500 for the year, but I would love to provide my students with art-making prompts that require special supplies that engage them in learning.
These printmaking supplies will offer my students a way to engage in art-making processes in authentic and hands-on ways that go beyond the traditional classroom experience.
My students come from impoverished communities and many have dealt with serious traumas before entering into my classroom. I would like to approach my projects from a trauma-informed lens that allows art-making to become cathartic and therapeutic. I know that printmaking engages learners because of its multi-layered and tangible processes that are involved. Your donations will expand my visual arts curriculum, so that the arts will continue to be seen as a vital and critical component in students' education and lives.
