Printmaking, a way to create multiples in art, is a relevant and engaging way for learners to understand more about mass-produced and distributed images within the world around them. I am asking for a class starter kit for my students to create EZ-cut linoleum prints, foam prints, and Jacquard Solar Inks, that will allow students to create images on transparencies that are then exposed to light on paper. I was given a budget of $500 for the year, but I would love to provide my students with art-making prompts that require special supplies that engage them in learning.
These printmaking supplies will offer my students a way to engage in art-making processes in authentic and hands-on ways that go beyond the traditional classroom experience. My students come from impoverished communities and many have dealt with serious traumas before entering into my classroom. I would like to approach my projects from a trauma-informed lens that allows art-making to become cathartic and therapeutic. I know that printmaking engages learners because of its multi-layered and tangible processes that are involved. Your donations will expand my visual arts curriculum, so that the arts will continue to be seen as a vital and critical component in students' education and lives.
