This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My English Language Learners (ELLs) lack most of the basic supplies needed in school. Please help my ELLs with their organizational skills! My ELLs do not have desks they use tables, which makes keeping their supplies together a challenge!
I work with about 25-27 exciting and energetic Kindergartners English Language Learners (ELLs) in the Bronx, NY.
Nearly all (98 percent) of the student population in my school is eligible for free lunch. My ELLs do not have very much to begin their schooling years with, and the resources we can provide them in terms of school supplies are limited. Many of my ELLs come from large families, their parents would love to help financially but they just can't.
My Project
Since my ELLs work at round small tables and not desks, they all keep their supplies in plastic containers across the classroom. With these seat sacks, my ELLs will be able to have a space of their own and will learn to become independent. These seat sacks provide enough storage for materials that my ELLs use daily, such as small reading books, writing journals, notebooks and writing supplies. These seat sacks will greatly help my ELLs learn at an early age how to keep their supplies organized. These organizational skills are needed to become successful in school, and students can carry them through out their school years. My kindergartners have to travel back and forth to different areas of the room to get their learning tools. This interruption in learning time eats away minutes of the school day. In order to save time during and between lessons, my ELLs are in need of a place closer to them to keep all their learning materials.
By funding this project, you will be providing the gift of time, organization, and most importantly, the opportunity to learn.
These seat sacks will save instructional time so that I can make a huge difference in these young students' lives as we learn.
