This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I love my kids!
They make me feel PURPOSEFUL.
I am a new (formerly taught Kindergarten for the past three years) Third grade teacher at a predominately Black, Title I school in Virginia.
What's funny is that I have the SAME students I had when I started teaching at my school three years ago!
This is my first year teaching Third grade and I basically came into an empty classroom with nothing to "inherit". So, I am starting all over again as far as building my classroom.
This year, all Virginia districts are required to emphasize "learning stations" in Reading, which basically consists of breaking one's students into 3 or more groups during a Language Arts lesson, each group doing a different Reading activity. After a certain time period (usually 15-20 minutes), rotations occur until all students have completed all stations. This gives students an opportunity to encounter a variety of activities.
In my classroom, my chalkboard and whiteboard easel is used heavily! One thing that I have always known is that students love to emulate their teachers--especially writing on the chalkboard! FOr some reason, they love that part of my job. So, I try to incorporate a chalkboard station into my Language Arts plans weekly.
I am asking for a class set of whiteboards and dry erase markers because I think the mini markerboards will give my students more mobility during their stations (they can use them at their desks, on the carpet) and will give me more leeway to plan different activities using them (to exemplify station activities, give instructions, and etc).
I also plan to use them during my Science lessons, to draw charts, graphs, and models.
Your help in funding this project will make my learning stations more mobile and interactive for my children. Not only will you be helping my children, you will be helping ME, as I "build" my new classroom!
The children will enjoy them, which means learning will be had! :-)
We appreciate it...
