My Students
My art classes are full of beginning and advanced artists in 8th-12th grade. It's a very diverse school that serves about 40% low income families. For some students this may be their last art class experience before graduation.
Due to Covid-19, getting art supplies to students means individual art supply kits instead of bulk class sets.
This project will fund a beginning drawing materials set for each of my students this semester including drawing pencils, ebony pencils, charcoal pencils, a blending stump, pencil sharpener, eraser, and a good pad of drawing paper.
My Project
These drawing materials will ensure all students have a variety of basic sketching tools and good drawing paper for art class. Since we are currently in fully virtual learning for the foreseeable future, some students have their own art supplies while other students are composing their artwork on lined notebook paper. And at such time we are able to return, students will not be able to share materials as in the past. My course is a combined class of Art 1 and Art 2 students across all grades 8th-12th.
These kits will allow each of my students to be equipped with the basics for art class regardless of covid; and for some of these students this will be their last arts education experience prior to graduation.
The financial complications schools, teachers, students and their families currently face together are tough. Art class and the needed supplies should be a bright spot, not an extra burden.
The art kit I chose includes graphite sketching pencils, ebony pencils for shading, charcoal pencils, a blending stump, a pencil sharpener, an eraser, and a pad of 60 lbs drawing paper. Getting each of my students this kit will ensure each of them has a chance to practice and hone their drawing skills with real art materials. These will set my beginners up for success, and my advanced students up to push themselves further and grow more as young artists.
