My Project

The books I have chosen will be added to our collection and will give students the opportunity to read, recognize, and respect, ways of life that may be different than their own. These books are highly engaging, which will encourage students to read for enjoyment, learn about others, as well as see themselves in the characters.

As students read about diverse populations, the hope is that they will gain a feeling of empathy and compassion for those who may not look, dress, speak, or believe the same.

Reading about other kids going through the same problems, regardless of race, gender identity, or ethnicity helps students connect with diverse populations. I have put up displays of diverse books in our library and students have cleaned the shelves and asked for more.
