Each student makes up an essential, unique thread within the fabric of our school community.
These creative, innovative, and enthusiastic students are the future of fashion and design. On a daily basis, these dedicated students work endlessly to bring their concepts to life in the form of clothing and accessories! Imagine the sense of accomplishment when a student revels in his or her work: a finished pair of pants, a shirt, a coat, and so on! As an educator, it is just as thrilling to bear witness to this process!
Akin to the garment district, our school is situated in Manhattan where even the skyscrapers do not reach the heights of our students’ ingenuity and talent! Our goal is to support and prepare these remarkable students for success in higher education and to follow in the footsteps of alumni, who have gone onto schools such as the Fashion Institute of Technology, The New School, Pratt Institute, Savannah College of Art, and Design, etc.
My Project
Imagine a world that is only black and white. There are no colors to represent the vibrancy and individuality in life... As we know, color has the power to convey a variety of things: emotions, representations, inspiration, etc.
In a design-oriented environment, it does not come as a surprise that our basic, essential tools—markers—have endured "wear and tear." They are used on a daily basis by each and every student!
The markers that we currently have are slowly drying out, and my students, while being very solution-driven and consistently thinking "outside of the box," are finding challenges in expressing their ideas through color.
Needless to say, it is time to replenish the supplies that afford students the opportunity to visually communicate their ideas. Prismacolor brand markers are a common staple in the design industry, especially fashion.
These markers will help our students to develop their portfolios and other essential design tasks for higher education, internships, and other enrichment opportunities!
