My debate students are more than my students, they are my children. I have had majority of them since they were freshmen and now they are seniors. They have so much drive and dedication to the Speech and Debate team at Joplin High School. They give up their night and weekends regularly to practice and compete and debate competitions. When they are not prepping or competing they are fundraising for the team where we can travel and experience new and exciting learning opportunities. They also run a successful mentor/mentee program to help aid their younger team members.
My Project
This is my second fundraiser for this project. Several of my students will use these resources for competition. My students often buy their own books and scripts, but they cannot always afford them. I would like to have these scripts and supplies in my classroom to aid them in being successful in Speech and Debate. Nine students went to nationals in June 2020 and these supplies could help more students go in June 2021! My students will be able to use these supplies in my classroom and check them out to take home. This year our tournaments are virtual and giving them supplies to have at home will be very beneficial.
