Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My goal is to create a “Painting Studio” Art Room for my eager-to-learn seventh graders that supports artistic exploration! In order to offer students a fair chance at success; we need to provide them access to the basics. Many of our students are excited to take art, some for the very first time!
We are a STEM school located in a high poverty area of East Brooklyn.
Our school provides bright students with unique hands-on experimentation that sparks a life-long, investigative love of learning. We provide students with learning experiences that prepare them to tackle the rigorous academic work of high school and beyond. Many of our students hope to become future designers, engineers, and inventors. Our students need art because it exercises the “right-side” of their naturally “left-side” brains! Our student population is 75% male, 25% female; African and Caribbean Americans.
My Project
We are requesting essential materials that every “Painting Studio” art classroom needs to succeed. We need high-quality paint brushes of varying sizes that can be used with acrylic, oil, and watercolor paint. This material is most important because it allows us to complete multiple projects and techniques across a span of media. We are also requesting a Color Wheel poster to learn about Color Theory in our “Science of Color” interdisciplinary painting unit. The Elements of Art reference poster we request will help students learn key art concepts. Lastly, paint can permanently stain students’ uniforms. We are requesting art aprons; which will allow students the freedom to experiment. Many students fear “getting too messy” in art and will avoid the risk of ruining their uniform. This fear limits students from reaching their full potential. Aprons ensure clothing protection and provides the apprehensive art student with “peace of mind”.
Your donation makes our vision of the immersive "Painting Studio" Art Room possible!
These basic supplies are needed to create authentic art experiences that will last in our room for years to come. Some of our students want to create art portfolios to prepare for high school admissions' processes, and desperately need access to these supplies. Your donation will provide creative learning opportunities that will help all students achieve success, now and in their future!
