This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Over the past few years, our urban public school has changed. We are still in the same older building with ten foot metal gates. Yet, behind the gates, we have a staff that cares about the students and wants to create positive experiences for them.
In our inner city urban school district, there is an enormous focus on testing and scores. Whatever extra funding is available must be used for classroom basics like pencils and paper, while students in suburban schools get extra enrichment activities. Currently there is no gifted and talented program at our school.
One of the teachers on our staff has asked each of us to start a school club to help bridge the gap in learning opportunities for our students. The children at our school love art, but we do not have an art teacher or art program. Since I have a background in art instruction, I want to create a new art club that would give students access to the basics of drawing and painting.
Your donation would ensure that students at our school would have access to art. You would also help start a program that would give children all the wonderful things like music, gardening, rocket building and sports that should be a part of everyone's education. Please help us create something beautiful with our students.
