This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Entering Pre-K is often the first schooling experience for a child. Having a "safe place" to understand and work through a variety of tricky emotions is important. In my classroom I call this space our "Zen Den." Throughout the year I coach students in understanding and coping with their emotions. This helps them build positive relationships with peers and adults. Our "Zen Den" includes photographs of different emotions, picture books modeling problem solving, and visual strategies and tools to help students calm down to refocus. In this area, I as the teacher model ways to cope with emotional distress and can more easily find the roots of problems to help students problem solve for more successful peer interactions. l will use items like fidgets, stress balls, slinkies, pin wheels, thinking putty, and other items to help students breathe and find positive ways to cope with challenging emotions! Thank you so much for supporting this effort.
