Help Create a Calming Focal Point in the Nurses Office

Help me give my students a calming distraction when they are not feeling well.

My Project

Having a calming focus for kids when they come to visit the nurse provides a distraction during what can sometimes be difficult conversations. The kids enjoy being able to watch the fish swim while they are awaiting parent pickup. Often times I have students in my office while they are feeling ill and having this resource for them helps them to take their mind off of the problem and relax a little.

I also see preschool students regularly and they are usually apprehensive (most are worried about getting a shot).

Having the fish allows me to open up conversation with them and let them get comfortable with me so I can better serve their medical needs.

Our students are primarily low income families and some of them have no pets. Having the fish in the office lets them have a bit of the experience of pet ownership and is a fun experience for them.
