My science students are vibrant, eager and curious about the world around them. Albert Einstein said, "creativity is intelligence having fun."
The best way to enjoy science class is to get involved actively, not passively!
In my classroom, students engage in the processes used by the scientific community through hands-on investigations and real world projects that inspire creativity, require problem solving, and encourage collaboration.
My students are diverse from various socio-economic backgrounds to learning styles and abilities. In my classroom, I have students who are learning English for the very first time and I have students who are advanced learners. Hands-on science learning supports all students and supports the techniques and methods used by scientists. Furthermore, practical projects allow students to foster a curiosity and excitement for science. My hope is that students enjoy science class and become lifelong science learners!
My Project
This year, I would like to create a new section of the classroom designed specifically for quiet and rethinking! My middle schoolers need help practicing and regulating some of their emotions and sometimes, they need a private area. In the classroom, I envision creating a space with new, comfy furnishings and a fish tank to help students relax. Students love taking care of things and having a sense of responsibility in the classroom. Students are anxious about starting the year and my goal is to have a calm corner where they can look and observe the fish tank. Having a class pet will allow me to also create a special sense of community with all students. Students will vote on a name for the fish. Having this fish tank will allow us to have a special and memorable year together.
