My students need 90 presentation boards to create professional quality exhibits for our Ancient Greece museum. They also need markers and paper to create their displays.
I consider my year a success if my students leave loving learning, and creating challenging, exciting learning opportunities is the best way to engage students. Many of my students get free and reduced lunch or have disabilities, so it can be difficult to find just the right way to reach them.
My school is a rural middle school that includes grades 6-8.
Nearly half of the students (49.3%) are considered high needs because of disabilities or economic status. The students come from a variety of backgrounds, and some face some real challenges.
Despite these challenges, the students I teach are vibrant, curious and are a hard-working group of seventh graders in Ancient Civilization.
Our school has a real sense of community. Many of the families have lived in the area for generations. Because the local towns are small, our school is a regional school, including seven towns.
My Project
Imagine walking into a museum with professional-quality exhibits made by students. There are a variety of tri-folds in different colors and models of all shapes and sizes. Each tri-fold presents a different aspect of Ancient Greece and how it has impacted modern life. My students need 90 presentation boards to create professional quality exhibits for our Ancient Greece museum. They also need markers and paper to create their displays.
The supplies I requested will help make this a reality for the entire seventh grade. Each small group of students will have a tri-fold board, paper, and markers to create a beautiful display. The will research the topic of their choice, synthesize the information, and use it to create an informative display. They will also learn by becoming tour guides of the exhibit. They will have to describe the important details of other exhibits to visitors. The goal is to have the students learn the same material they would have from reading their text books, doing writing assignments, and taking tests in an exciting and engaging way.
Your donation will make a world of difference in my classroom and the students' lives.
Having access to the same materials will give all students the chance to create professional exhibits, not just those who have the financial resources and parental support. For the students who have never had that opportunity, this will be a chance for them to experience success on a new level, which might just help them come to love learning.
