My Project
I work at a very special school that serves students who are Deaf, hard of hearing, or the children of Deaf adults (CODAs). As largely visual learners, our students can greatly benefit from the use of technology in the classroom, whether it is to strengthen their background knowledge, or to add visual aid to a lesson.
Unfortunately, the technology we currently have is lacking.
We rely heavily on grants fund our technology. Often times, there is not enough teacher computers to go around; so, many teachers have to make do with outdated and unreliable equipment. The computer I am currently using is from 2008. It can no longer play videos and will not connect to the Internet without an ethernet cord. This makes it extremely difficult to use.
While it is an inconvenience for me, it is the students who are ultimately paying the price. They are missing the benefit of having access to a wealth of information. In addition, parent/teacher conferences are now held on Zoom. Without more modern equipment, the connection between school and families will suffer as well.
