My Students
Do you remember as a child when you were learning about animals, war or even topics in math and you knew having a visual would help you understand everything? My school provides the bare essentials and technology falls at the bottom of the list. My students are visual learners and need technology!
My students come from poverty-stricken homes and most don't know how good it feels to succeed.
My classroom is a second grade, integrated room in New York. A lot of my students come from broken homes or live with other relatives because their parents have made wrong choices in their lives.
I have 8 special education students in my room that need more support. I want to ensure that I am doing everything I can to help them succeed. I want to be able to provide the fun and interactive learning that they deserve. They learn from hands-on activities and sometimes I can't provide what they need on my own.
My students are amazed by the smallest things because they don't have opportunities to take adventures or to see the world. Often times they learn through experiences I share with them. They show great excitement when I am able to show them things they have never seen before. It is my job to open their minds and to get them on the right learning path.
My Project
I am requesting an ELMO document camera. In our classroom now we have three computers but only 2 work. My district does not have extra funding to spend on technology for our classrooms. This ELMO will make a world of difference in my students' learning and motivation to learn.
I will be able to use the ELMO for all subjects including math, reading, science, spelling, and social studies. It will allow me to show my students real life images and will keep their interest in the topics they are learning. When they ask me a question like, "What does that animal look like?" I can quickly put up a real image of the animal.
When I am able to give my students what they need you can see the excitement on their faces. My second graders are VISUAL learners and I wish I had the technology to support them in their success and learning. The ELMO will also allow me to play videos, songs and websites to help me teach my students everything they need to learn.
My school is an "In Need of Improvement" school.
The teachers work hard to give their students what they need, but sometimes this is impossible without help and support. I provide what I can for my students to succeed but some things are just out of my hands.
This ELMO will make a huge difference in my students' understanding and motivation to learn. It will prepare them for the high demands and expectations of third grade. Technology in the classroom isn't a want, technology is a NEED.
