This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Kindergarten is fun and lays the foundation for the rest of a child's educational career.
I work as a Kindergarten ICT (Integrative Collaborative Team) teacher in Bushwick, Brooklyn.
My 25 students are a mixture of, both, Special Ed and General Ed students. Most of my students are of Latino descent and are English Language Learners. My children do not have it easy. Many of their parents do not speak English, they come from foster homes, and some do not even know when or where their next meal is coming from. It is a wonder to me that they come to school every single day with smiles on their faces, ready and willing to learn.
My students have so much potential to excel in school and beyond, but they do not have the proper technological tools and materials in order to do so.
My Project
My students need two iPad tablets. This will not only increase my students' reading, writing, and math ability, but foster their technological and creative side.
I plan to use these devices during center activities in the hopes that these devices will spark an interest for reading, math, writing and technology. This will also encourage my students to want to learn about other things as well.
We do not have working computers in my classroom, therefore these devices will allow students to access the Internet and other important applications related to learning throughout the school day. iPads have many applications which are valuable, such as “ABC Pocket Phonics” for learning letters, letter sounds, and helping with handwriting and “Wonder Bunny Math Race” for math, to name a few. iPads can also be easily manipulated by students who have difficulty with their fine motor skills.
I believe that with the help of these technological devices, my students will excel in many subjects and be able to read and write on grade level, while continuing to foster their creative and technological side.
I believe in my children and hope that you do too. This is why I am asking you to help us by giving us some greatly needed tech tools.
Thank you!
