This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I don't have a pencil. I don't have markers. I don't have glue. Unfortunately, these sentences are commonly heard throughout my classroom on a daily basis.
My students are always eager to learn, but we run into a problem when we don't have the basic materials for them to utilize.
These students are at a great disadvantage because they come from low income families and are on free and reduced lunches. They come to school with a number of stressors linked to their home life. They want to learn, but once they realize they don't have a pencil they are too embarrassed to say anything and I loose them before we even began.
My Project
My students need an assortment of supplies to not only allow learning to take place, but to make it fun.
Since most of these supplies are basic, I will be using them on a daily basis. We do many activities throughout the school year. These activities allow students to work in small groups where they can learn from one another or to extend lessons.
The Expo markers however, has a unique role in my classroom. We use our small dry erase boards on a daily basis. Sometimes its for small group work or games. I get instant feedback from the students so I know what skills need further development. The students love using these markers, which makes their engagement to the lesson take place.
By making a donation to my classroom, you will be allowing my students to become engaged learners.
They won't have to worry about how they don't have their supplies. They will also be able to extend their learning by completing numerous activities throughout the year.
