My Students
Are you ready to jump start your learning with games?! My students are.... they are loving the new addition/subtraction and multiplication/division games that have been brought into the classroom and now it is time to bring in Geometry and Fraction based activities.
My students come from diverse backgrounds.
Some of the students are middle class, while many of them are from a lower economic community. My class has about 82% receiving free and reduced price lunch. Even though some of my kids have a tough life at home, they come to school eager to learn. They want to do well and they want to understand the content that is being taught. I want to be able to bring in as many resources for these students because I know many of them don't have the resources at home.
My Project
I have asked for LEGO Education Community Minifigures Set and LEGO Education Brick Set so students can use Lego's to do different math activities, such as exploring equivalent fractions, exploring the meaning of mean, median and mode, making colorful arrays and just having fun using their imagination with legs.
The Geometry games and activities, such as Minder Imaginets will be used during small group center activity time. They will allow students to build with shapes and look at what they have made and talk about which shapes are congruent, symmetrical and just to get more familiar with the shapes around them within their work.
The K'NEX education sets will also be used engage students in hands-on math activities. They will have to build three dimensional shapes and then list the attributes of that shape they have built. With K'NEX students will also be able to build onto their shape and explore the different shapes that can make new shapes.
These materials will help engage students during their math time and also give them many different game and activity options.
All the students love Lego's and it would be great if they could relate a favorite toy to mathematics. The other activities and games would be new to the students, which allows students to explore new things.
