it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a Social Studies teacher in an inner-city middle school, currently teaching 7th and 8th grades. My students come to me from a high-need community, where resources are quite limited.
There is very little money to help increase these resources.
Each teacher is allotted only $130 per year for school supplies. Additionally, English Language Arts and Math are the two subjects most supported, and they receive the limited amount of technology and supplemental resources the school can afford. My students are not given much in the way of opportunities outside of the bare minimum. Art and music classes have been cut and after-school activities and sports are extremely limited. My students would benefit from more technology in the classroom, and the mere knowledge that people out there care about their education.
My Project
I am looking for funds to buy a document camera. Students learn in different ways. Any chance to create a lesson in which I can use my voice (for auditory learners) as well as something visual (for visual learners) will reach more of the students effectively. Moreover, students are always attracted to lessons that involve technology. All of my lessons involve modeling and demonstration, which is much more effective when projected in front of the class. We do creative projects, activities, and the lessons. The document camera is an excellent way to bring together all of the activities and goals.
With your assistance, I will not go into debt myself in order to continue the style of teaching I feel works best for my students.
