My Students
Help me transform our old modular classroom into a warm, functional learning space! This project will give my students a better environment by giving us some of the tools we need to get organized.
I teach 26 Fifth graders at one of the charter schools that opened in Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina.
My students are African American, Vietnamese, and Hispanic, and over 90% of my students live in high poverty. They have overcome so many obstacles already in their young lives, but they have high hopes and optimism that they can achieve success if they work hard. They are children who will prove that no disaster can stop someone from going places, doing great things, and achieving their dreams.
My Project
It may seem hard to believe, but our school is currently located in trailers brought in after Katrina as a temporary school site. Five years after Katrina, these trailers are literally falling apart, but the staff at our school try to make the best of our site and give our students great spaces to learn. I work tirelessly to make our classroom environment an inviting space where students are excited to spend 8 hours a day, despite being housed in an aging modular. This project will give us some of the things that I can use to organize our classroom, so that all available space is being used in a productive way. Pocket charts and magnetic display tools will help us use our walls and cabinets for learning, while file folders and bins to turn in assignments will help my students organize and save their valuable assignments that they work so hard to complete.
An organized classroom helps students become more organized and focused themselves!
Join my mission to make the most of the resources available to us at our school. We may not have a permanent classroom, but our students deserve to have a fabulous classroom. Support this project and help me build our wonderful classroom learning environment! Thank you!
