My Students

My classroom is a Comprehensive Special Education Program.

My student population consists of students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Specific Learning Disabilities and Intellectual Disabilities.

Working with this population can be difficult, but it is super rewarding within this environment. I teach the most interesting, well-behaved, scholars ever! My school is a student-centered environment filled with "World-Class Teachers"! This will be my fifth year but on day one, I knew this school was home. As a team, we are continuously brainstorming ways to evolve as educators, and we are also advocates for family involvement in the learning process!

My Project

With this project, students will work in groups to design and sketch a robot idea. Our school is a new Arts Integration School, so I would like them to build the guitar robot, to showcase the relationship between Science and Musical Arts. They will use their sketches to build the final product, utilizing the design process. Next, the students will use the tablet I am requesting to code their design, making it operate according to the commands they enter. During the task my students will propose possible solutions to troubleshooting coding and robotics. The memory card will help support saving coding designs and ideas to revisit past projects. Students will need batteries to make their ideas come to life. Lastly, I am requesting a case for the tablet, in order to keep it I'm great condition to use the whole year!

Kids learn best through hand-on activities and imaginative discoveries; and my students will love designing and building using STEAM Technology!

Lego Boost Creative Toolbox is the perfect kit to help introduce my students to coding and design through robotics technology. Students can build several different types of designs with this kit, and use the software on a compatible tablet to make them come alive. I want to teach my students how to program using Lego Boost kits because it is developmentally appropriate, improves socialization, increases engagement, collaboration and improves the level of rigor.
