My Students

My students come in and work hard every day. My goal for the end of they year is to make them better thinkers, readers, and writers. The biggest challenge I deal with is working in a community where education is not a priority.

My students live in a small, rural community.

They come from low socioeconomic backgrounds where education is not a focus at home. My school is a rural 7th through 12th grade school. We are sandwiched between the Mississippi River and the Gulf of Mexico.

My Project

Students will be given their own copy of The Giver and Night for use in class and at home. They will be able to keep their book, thus allowing them to read and annotate their books without repercussions because otherwise we would have to borrow the books from a library. By students being able to mark their text it will help them understand what they are reading better and set them up for success when they read in the future both in class and out of class.

Donations will improve my classroom because I will be able to help teach students how to break down a novel for understanding.

While I don't think this will be a student's first book they own, I think it will be a book of substance that they will be able to own and learn how to understand better for the future.
