Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

The materials and resources I am requesting for my students will directly benefit their learning and their play skills. There are three different types of resources on this list: the items that will help reduce distracts while learning, the items that will help my students with their sensory needs, and the items that my students will use to learn how to play and play appropriately. Distractions typically make it extremely challenging for anyone to focus, no matter the circumstance. For my students particularly, even the smallest of distractions, such as a tag itching their back, viewing another classmate playing, or hearing another voice, can take their focus off their learning. Currently in my classroom, we are using cardboard dividers that have limited effectiveness. It is my hope to receive a tall three panel divider to help limit the visual and auditory distracts that could be present in my classroom and cause my students to be distracted.

By receiving items that will help limit distractions, meet my students' sensory needs, and teach my students how to play, my students will grow as individuals and grow in their academics.

Sensory needs. A lot of my students have sensory needs and are constantly looking for sensory seeking activities or sensory fidgets. If my students' sensory needs are not met before/during learning, then it makes it incredible challenging for them to learn and engage in a task. Because of this, I am seeking sensory items such as the water mats, sit and spin, sensory cuddle box for deep pressure, and yoya stretch balls. The other items on my list are to encourage my students to play and be kids. Play is so important for a child's development and often a skill that needs to be taught!
