My Project
I have selected items that will grab student attention and motivate them to work even harder as we approach our window for state testing. Thank you for helping me help students to grow and finish the year strong.
I teach in a rural Arkansas Delta community.
Student and family resource are scared and academic achievement has not been the norm.
My ELA students have been working hard to improve their reading skills. Earlier in the year, I instituted a point system that regulated group work. Each member of each group was assigned roles like facilitator, reporter, material manager, etc. Groups could earn points by arriving to class on time, participating in class discussions and activities, and taking their group roles and work seriously.
At the end of each week, I tally the points and award the group with the most points designation as Group of the Week. GOTW is rewarded with snacks, lunch of their choice, or other perks.
The results have been AMAZING!! I've witnessed a transformation in behavior and effort. Students who have previously been disengaged are now actively participating in the learning. Students are holding themselves accountable for each other and their groups.
As a teacher with a limited budget of finances and time, remaining consistent is difficult. The items I have requested will allow me the chance to continue utilizing my system, diversify the rewards for students, and relieve some of the financial burden and time constraints.
