My class is a salad bowl made up of diverse students from all walks of life. Some are low income students who need support with basic necessities while others are high achieving and way above grade level. This project is for one student in particular who would greatly benefit from your support. I will call this student Sam to keep their name and gender private. Sam is a kind and caring student that has touched our hearts. Sam is an ESL student with a vision impairment. This is something that Sam was born with and it has impacted Sam's life and learning tremendously. Even eye glasses do little to help. Sam tries his/her best every day, even though daily work is very difficult given this impairment. Regardless, you will always see Sam smiling and being kind to everyone.
My Project
Sam has a severe vision impairment that makes all the activities we do a daily challenge to overcome. This iPad would be a game changer in Sam's life because we can take pictures on the go which we can enlarge and manipulate. When I read a book aloud to the class, Sam can have a personal copy on the iPad to follow along and enjoy. We can look up unknown words as Sam's English vocabulary grows. In reading groups, the books change so frequently and this way we can enlarge them right away. I can pre-record questions on the iPad that Sam can respond to without making it a struggle to write. The possibilities are endless. As much as we want to, we can not change the world, but you can change the way Sam sees the world. Any little bit with help.
