Help a Helpless Student Learn English with a Pocket Translator
Help me give my students a translator so they can learn English from their native language. With the open border in addition to Spanish speaking students with no familiarity of English many students from other countries need help.

My Project
Living in New York City, we have a wide diversity of students. Exclusive Spanish speakers, Guyanese, Chinese and many other countries come to school not knowing any English at all. This is a challenge for me. I don't have the resources to have a bilingual person accompany the helpless student all day. I need a translator. I realized that after having a Spanish speaking student last week who knew no English at all. All I could do was show him some videos from YouTube that translated a few vocabulary words. Seeing his frustration and feeling my own frustration I began thinking that a handy translator would be perfect for these types of students. I would be able to convey the content of my lesson, and the student would be able to keep along with the class. I wish I had a translator for cases like this. It was sad to watch a dejected student just sit there when I was talking to the other students knowing he wished he could communicate but not being able to. If someone would donate the translator then that would be good.
