This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a first year teacher I am excited to meet my fourth graders. Having worked at the school for a year as a Student Teacher and as a Student Support Assistant, I know how eager the students are to learn. Many of the students come from low income homes, some of which do not speak English.
The school I work at is one of the most diverse schools in Pennsylvania but only 33% of the students are proficient in reading.
Because of this I want to make sure that when they enter my classroom they have access to all of the necessary resources to succeed.
I know that with help from DonorsChoose.org, we will be able to provide a classroom that helps our student thrive.
My Project
These books will help me begin my dream classroom library. In a time like today it is extremely important that our classrooms provide access to a wide range of reading materials that reflect abilities and interests. Every child comes to our classroom with their own background and passion. For many children, they have rarely been represented in books.
With these new books, the students will be able to read a variety of literature where they can see themselves.
Along with open discussions, we can show that there is power in everyone's story. In addition to the books, a comfortable space for them to read will make sure they stay engaged in the book with minimal distraction.
