Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are eager, kind, enthusiastic young people, from working class and immigrant families. We are in a public school in the south San Francisco area. My seventh graders are eager to learn, and look forward to seeing books that captivate them!
In class, we will read assigned texts together, but I really want them to be able to choose independent reading books from a classroom bookshelf to take home and discuss with classmates.
I am hoping your donation can be a part of this!
My Project
After sixteen years teaching high school, I am starting a new job teaching middle school! This requires a new classroom library, with titles that are appealing to and appropriate for seventh graders. Most of my students are English Language Learners, and falling in love with reading books in English could really help them to build their skills!
I have purposely requested five of each book, so that the students can read them with peers and discuss the books such as Cinder, The Contender and Number The Stars.
Seventh graders care a lot about what their peers are doing. So let's harness this to make reading cool! It will be great to hear them talking about these books!
