My Students

My students love to learn. They have a thirst for knowledge, and they look forward to coming to school every day. I try my best to provide them with as many experiences as I can in the classroom, on the playground, and through books, field trips, technology, and STEAM activities.

My students are wonderful, enthusiastic, third-grade scholars!

Our school is located in a high immigrant, low-income community in California. The parents of most of my students have never finished high school. Many of my students will be the first ones in their family to complete high school and hopefully college, too.

Most of my students are English Language Learners. I have several students with learning disabilities, and I also mainstream several deaf and hard of hearing students into my all-inclusive classroom.

My Project

My students love to express themselves through art. During the first week of school, I would like to have each student make a few “all about me” art projects as a way of introducing themselves to the class. Each day after lunch, I will read a fun picture book about building self-esteem. Then the students will use the project materials to create amazing works of art to express who they are. I will also be taking first day of school photos of the students that will be showcased in their student-designed picture frames. The families will then have a special photo of their kids on their first day in third grade. I’m asking for a pack of multicultural colored people shapes, several books about building self-awareness and self-esteem, along with a set of foam picture frames so every child will be able to create wonderful art projects about themselves. I'm also asking for some colored pencils, markers, and oil pastels so that my students will be able to creatively design and bring their works of art to life.

This project will allow my students to create a few marvelous “all about me” masterpieces.

The materials will enrich my curriculum and allow my students to use their imagination and creativity to design art that they can proudly display. I'm sure my students will thoroughly enjoy this project. I hope it encourages them to stay in school and possibly pursue a career in art.
