My Students

Many of the students in my classroom have experienced trauma in their lives, and school is their safe place. They come to school to escape what is happening at home. My classroom serves students with a range of disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbance, autism spectrum disorder, and specific learning disabilities.

The typical student in my class struggles with basic phonemic awareness and letter recognition.

About 90% of my students are African American or Latino. The opportunity and achievement gaps are apparent among our student population.

My Project

I recently discovered this wonderful set of books that help children discover different aspects about the world around them. I would love to have this set in my classroom to help my students read about the world! These books are cheerful, vibrant and colorful, but best of all, they are board books, so we can wipe them down and free them of germs (and viruses). I would love to have this set of books waiting in my classroom for my new kindergarten students when we start back to school next September.
