My Students

My students come from various social-economic and cultural backgrounds, 100% of which receive free breakfast and lunch. My school functions from within the achievement zone, working diligently toward increasing student retention and high school graduation within the Banneker High School cluster. As their teacher, it is my goal to support their growth by providing access to multiple educational resources. Our students, in spite of potential set backs and/or gaps, are driven toward success by challenging rigor and intentional teaching and are both eager and excited to learn everyday.

My Project

Discovery is a large part of everyday learning, especially in our classroom during science block. Students are exposed to phenomena that connects science and engineering concepts to the experiences of scientists within the workplace. This connection brings to life the reality of doing science rather than simply learning science. With the google assistant tablet, students will have an inquiry hub to further explore concepts through questioning their assumptions and gathering information using a variety of sources. The inquiry hub will not only establish a safe place for students to gather information and develop independence aside from relying soley on the teacher, but also encourages ownership of their individual learning experience.
